If God Knows Everything, Why Does He Test People?
Sometimes in our lives, we start to wonder: if God knows everything, why does He test people’s character? After all, He already knows what they will do, right? But things are not that simple. 1. The Test Isn’t for God’s Benefit, It’s for Ours
God already knows every possible choice we could make under difficult circumstances. Yet before granting a blessing, He often allows us to be tested so that we can grow into the decisions He wants us to make according to His will. We see this pattern throughout the Bible. Joseph’s time in prison and Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his own son are two powerful examples of faith being refined through trial.
2. Testing Produces Character, Not Just Reveals It
According to the Book of James, mature faith can only be revealed through trials and tribulations. When we face difficult situations and remain firm in faith, it’s similar to taking our faith to the gym. Each trial acts like a workout, and over time, our faith becomes stronger and more resilient.
3. Free Will and Genuine Choice
Because we live in physical bodies, we will inevitably face testing. Even as Christians, we still carry fleshly desires within us. God allows these tests because without them, we wouldn’t truly have free will. He loves us deeply and wants our love for Him to be sincere, not forced.
4. The Breakthrough Moment
Before granting a blessing, God often tests us to see if we are prepared to receive it. He does this because He loves us. Sometimes the very thing we desire most can become destructive if we aren’t ready for it. Rather than giving us something that could ultimately lead to our downfall, God chooses to test us first. Once we pass that test, He can finally pour out His blessings upon us.
