To be a Christian means not only to follow Christ, but also to preach the Gospel in season and out of season, and to forgive those who may harm us. Today, let’s dive into a powerful moment in Scripture where a jailer was saved through the ministry of the Apostle Paul, and how one act of obedience led to the salvation of an entire family.

Paul And Silas Praising In Jail

It was around midnight when Paul and Silas, despite being imprisoned, began praising God with songs. Suddenly, there was a great earthquake that opened all the prison doors and loosed everyone’s chains. The jailer, seeing this, believed the prisoners had escaped, and knowing the Roman penalty for such a failure, he prepared to end his own life.
But the Apostle Paul shouted to stop him, assuring him that all the prisoners were still there. Shocked and moved by what had just happened, the jailer fell down before Paul and Silas and asked, “What must I do to be saved?”
Paul answered, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”
Then Paul and Silas went to his home, preached the gospel to everyone in the house, and all of them were baptized. The entire household rejoiced because they now believed in God.
Conclusion – From Hell To Heaven In A Second

Brothers and sisters, only God can do something so incredible. In just a matter of seconds, that man was headed for eternal destruction because he intended to take his own life. But in an instant, not only was he saved, but so was his entire family. What a powerful testimony!
The devil’s plan for his life was hell, but Christ had a plan of salvation for him and for all who were in his house. Through this passage, we learn a valuable lesson. Sometimes, people around us are going through deep struggles, and we stay silent. We miss the opportunity to share God’s Word with them. But remember, there is power in the Word of God, and we as Christians must understand the responsibility we have.
If Paul had decided to stay silent, that jailer would have taken his own life. He was a Roman, yet Paul chose to show love instead of hatred, mercy instead of judgment. He chose to preach the gospel to him, and because of that, an entire family was saved for the glory of God.
Now imagine the impact that family could have had over generations. That one act of obedience may have led to many more Christians down the line. This is why we must preach the gospel boldly, knowing that when someone accepts Christ as their Savior, not only is one sin forgiven, but a multitude of sins are covered. The message will continue to be passed on from generation to generation.
