26 “And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.”
Acts 8:26
In the Christian life, the Holy Spirit will sometimes lead us to do things so the kingdom of heaven can advance and the preaching of the gospel can reach others. Today, let’s dive into the story of the Ethiopian eunuch and Philip, and understand the importance of not delaying what God is calling us to do now.

1 – Phillip Accepts The Calling
29 “Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.”
Acts 8:29

When we decide to follow Christ, we must understand that we become soldiers of God. Just like soldiers have missions to accomplish, the Holy Spirit will lead us on assignments to advance the kingdom of heaven.
Philip understood that. Led by the Spirit, he went toward the south, to the road that goes from Jerusalem to Gaza, which is a desert. He knew that as a servant of God, he had a mission to fulfill. When he arrived, he saw a chariot. The Spirit led him to approach it.
Inside the chariot was an Ethiopian eunuch, a man of great reputation. He was reading the prophet Isaiah but couldn’t understand the meaning of the prophecies. Philip asked him if he understood what he was reading, and the eunuch shared his doubts. After some powerful explanation, Philip preached the gospel of Christ. The eunuch was so convinced that, when they came across a body of water, he asked if he could be baptized. Philip replied that if he truly believed, he could. Once he was baptized, the Holy Spirit caught Philip away. His mission was complete.
2 – Do What Is Possible, Let God With The Impossible
34 “And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?”
35 “Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.”
Acts 8:34-35

One thing we learn from Philip is that he knew how to explain the Word of God. In those days, it was common for Jewish people to know the Scriptures because they were taught them from a young age. Today, we may not have the same background, but that is no excuse. We must study the Word. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would help us remember His words, but if we don’t read and study, how can He remind us of what we never learned?
God won’t do what we can do. He gave us the ability to study, but sometimes we’re just lazy. We may say we don’t have time, but in reality, our issue is with priorities. We always make time for the things we value. We watch sports, scroll social media, and relax, but neglect studying His Word.
It’s time to set the right priorities, brothers and sisters. God wants to use us in mighty ways, but we must do our part. He will handle the impossible, but He’s counting on us to take care of the possible.
Conclusion – Later On Can Be Too Late!
27 “And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship.”
Acts 8:27

The calling was clear, and Philip, in obedience, went immediately. Now imagine if Philip hadn’t responded. The eunuch might never have received salvation, and Philip would have missed his moment.
I still remember, back in 2022, I was working at a store in a mall. They moved me between different teams to gain experience. One day, I worked with a girl who started singing Christian songs, but based on her behavior and what others said, it seemed like she wasn’t living a Christian life anymore.
When I heard her sing, I felt the Holy Spirit leading me to preach to her. But I hesitated. I thought, “I don’t know her well. Maybe I should wait until I get to know her better.” So I didn’t say anything. That same day, I told the Holy Spirit I was sorry and promised that next time I was with her, I would speak. But I never worked with her again. A few days later, she was fired, and I never saw her again.
Yes, the Holy Spirit can use someone else to reach her, I know that. But I also know that God gave me that opportunity, and I didn’t obey. Even though I repented, I wasn’t given a second chance with her.
My advice to you is this: if the Holy Spirit leads you to do something, don’t delay, no matter what, because later on might be too late.
