The Fruit Of The Spirit: Peace

Acts 12:6 (KJV):

“And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.”

One of the most amazing fruits of the Spirit is the fruit of peace. This peace allows us to rest and sleep soundly, even when the worst circumstances surround us. Today, let’s dive into a powerful moment in history when Peter was imprisoned and facing certain death. Yet, through faith, he slept peacefully the night before his rescue.

If this encourages you, leave a comment below and check out our related article: How To Receive The Peace That Surpass All Understanding.

1 – Peter Is Rescued

Acts 12:7

“And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.”

King Herod sought to please the Jewish leaders by imprisoning and planning to kill Peter and the other apostles. He planned to publicly present Peter after Passover, a move likely meant to humiliate and execute him.

But the church was fervently praying for Peter’s safety. The Bible tells us that just one day before his intended death, Peter was sleeping deeply, bound in chains, guarded by soldiers!

This teaches us the supernatural peace God gives to His children. Even when death seems near, we can rest in the hope and assurance of God’s presence. Peter knew this peace because he trusted God with all his heart.

2 – The Power Of Prayer

James 5:16 (KJV)

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Suddenly, an angel wakes Peter, breaks his chains, and leads him out of prison. At first, Peter thought it was a vision. But once outside, he knew the miracle was real.

Peter went to the house of Mary, the mother of John Mark. When he knocked, a servant girl recognized his voice and told the others who were praying. They initially thought she was mistaken or had seen an angel, but when Peter entered, they were amazed by God’s answer to their prayers.

Interestingly, even those praying for his deliverance were caught off guard when God moved.

Conclusion

Brothers and sisters, this story reminds us that sometimes God only requires a little faith to perform great miracles. Don’t let doubt rule your heart. Trust in God, because through prayer, all things are possible!

We also see the powerful benefit of peace in the Christian life, peace that remains even in the hardest trials because we know God will make a way. And if He doesn’t intervene here on earth, He already won the ultimate victory on the Cross, offering us eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Amen to that!
