Faith: Why Is Impossible To Please God Without It?

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV):

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Faith is the foundation of the Christian life. Without it, we simply cannot please God. But what if you struggle with faith? What if you find it hard to believe? Today, let’s explore what true faith is, how we can grow in it, and how to overcome unbelief.

1 – What Is Faith?

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV):

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Faith is not based on what we see, it’s about believing even when we don’t see. According to Hebrews 11:1, faith is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” That means we trust in God’s promises, even when our circumstances say otherwise.

Take Abraham, for example. He’s one of the greatest examples of faith in the Bible.

  • First, God told him to leave his home and go to a land He would show him, without telling him where it was. Imagine trying to explain that to your family!

  • Second, when God tested Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his son Isaac, Abraham obeyed. He believed that God could raise Isaac from the dead if necessary, because God had promised him descendants.

2 – Abraham Was Approved

Genesis 22:12 (KJV):

“And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.”

Sometimes, before God fulfills a promise, He tests our faith. Why? Because He wants to prove our hearts and prepare us to handle greater blessings.

Just like in school, where a test confirms what we’ve learned, God uses spiritual tests to prove our trust in Him. Luke 16:10 reminds us: “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much.

So don’t fear the test. If God is testing your faith, it’s because He wants to elevate you.

3 – Ask And You Will Receive

Matthew 21:22 (KJV)

“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”

Mark 9:24 (KJV):

“And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”

If you struggle with faith, ask God to help you.

In Mark 9, a desperate father brought his demon-possessed son to Jesus. He said, “If you can do anything, please help us.” Jesus replied, “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”

The man responded :

“Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief!”

Jesus then rebuked the demon, and the boy was set free.

That moment teaches us something important:

  • You can be honest with God about your doubt.

  • He won’t reject you for it, He’ll help you overcome it.

Even in our daily lives, when we complain or say, “Nothing ever goes right for me,” we’re unintentionally doubting God’s promises. That kind of thinking is dangerous, it suggests God can’t or won’t fulfill His Word.

But God is not a liar. He is faithful and true.

Conclusion

I don’t know what season you’re in, but if you’re struggling to believe, you’re not alone. Every believer faces moments of doubt. But in those moments, ask like the man in Mark 9:

“Lord, help my unbelief.”

I personally pray daily for God to increase my faith and to rebuke every thought of doubt in my heart. I invite you to do the same today.
