Have you ever wondered what the first sin truly was?
We often think of Adam and Eve’s fall in the Garden of Eden as the beginning of sin. And while that was the moment sin entered humanity, it wasn’t the first appearance of sin itself. Long before humans were created, Satan and his demons were already judged after committing a sin in heaven, pride.
Today, let’s reflect on the impact of pride in Satan’s story. If you enjoy this article, don’t forget to leave us a comment and check out another related post: 3 Reasons To Be Aware of Compliments!
1 – The Birth Of The First Sin
Isaiah 14:13-14 (KJV):
“For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:”
“I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.”

According to the Bible, Satan was once an angel of light, one of the most powerful and glorious beings God had created. (Ezekiel 28:13) describes him as full of beauty, adorned with precious jewels, and even connected to music. But how did such a glorious being fall so drastically? The answer is pride.
Scripture doesn’t detail every reason for Lucifer’s pride, but we can reasonably assume that his beauty, power, and the admiration he received from other angels played a major role. Pride often begins when someone becomes overly focused on the compliments they receive. That’s why we, as Christians, must stay vigilant when receiving praise. We were not created to be worshipped, but to worship the One true God!
The Bible also tells us that one-third of the angels in heaven fell with Lucifer. This shows that his pride not only corrupted him, but influenced many others. Once Lucifer began to focus on his own glory, glory that was given by God, he likely thought, “If I am so glorious, maybe I can be like God.” And just like that, the trap of pride was set, and the first sin was introduced.
2 – Pride Is Contagious
Revelation 12:7-9 (KJV):
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,”
“And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.”
“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

If there were 100 million angels in heaven at that time, a third falling would mean 30 million angels became demons. That’s staggering!
These angels, though still created by God, were influenced and deceived by Lucifer’s pride. That teaches us a sobering truth: pride is contagious. If Satan could corrupt angels who were already in the presence of God, how much more must we be careful not to fall into the same trap?
Brothers and sisters, this is why we must guard our hearts daily. If we don’t humble ourselves before the Lord regularly, the enemy can easily plant prideful thoughts in our minds. Once we take the bait of pride, it’s only a matter of time before destruction follows. Remember what the Bible says in Proverbs 16:18 (KJV): “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”
Conclusion
Pride was the first sin ever committed—before Adam and Eve, before the fall of man. And even today, many people are being led away from God by that same sin.
Today, I invite you to examine your heart and your thoughts. If you recognize even a small seed of pride that may have been planted by the enemy, rebuke it in the name of Jesus and ask the Holy Spirit to purify your heart.
Remember what the Bible says in Proverbs 28:13 (KJV): “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”
