Psalm 27:14 (KJV):
“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”
Have you ever been caught in one of God’s tests of patience?
Well, Moses was, and he had to wait 40 years before he began to see God’s promises unfold in his life. Today, let’s explore why God sometimes allows us to wait for long periods before His promises are fulfilled, and how impactful these waiting seasons can be.

1 – Lack Of Patience Equal Consequences
Galatians 6:7 (KJV):
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

Even though Moses was raised as a prince in Egypt, he had a deep love for his people. One day, he saw a Hebrew being mistreated by an Egyptian and was consumed with anger, so much so that he killed the Egyptian.
God was with Moses, but he still had to face the consequences of his actions. Because of that, he had to flee from Egypt and live in Midian for 40 years. As a prince, Moses had the best education, wore the finest clothes, and lived in luxury. But because of one poor decision, he had to leave it all behind. He likely didn’t see his people, or even his family, for four decades.
Imagine this: if Moses hadn’t killed the Egyptian, he may have lived as a prince for another 40 years before God’s calling to lead the Israelites out of slavery. That was the price of his impatience.
2 – Out Of The Comfort Zone
While living in Midian, far from his comfort zone, Moses began working as a shepherd for Jethro, eventually marrying Jethro’s daughter Zipporah and having children.
After 40 years, God revealed Himself to Moses through a burning bush that was not consumed. As Moses approached, God spoke and commissioned him to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt.

His time of preparation was over. Moses returned to Egypt, and the well-known story of the ten plagues began. After Pharaoh’s repeated refusals and God’s mighty hand at work, Pharaoh finally let the Israelites go. But later, he changed his mind and pursued them. As the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, God parted the waters for them and destroyed the pursuing Egyptian army for His glory.
Brothers and Sisters, it seems that to God, patience is an art. Through adversity, He refines us. Moses had to wait 40 years before being used powerfully by God, and this shows us that no matter how many years pass, God can still use you in a mighty way. You just have to stay on the narrow path and trust His timing!
So if you’re facing a season of hardship, remember, God may be preparing you for something far greater. In the pain, develop patience. In the future, you’ll see how it was all part of His perfect plan.
Conclusion
Today, we learned how God often uses time to prepare us for what He has in store. Through difficult circumstances, it becomes essential to develop patience, because only through patience can we truly walk in the promises of God.
