Why It Is So Hard To Obey God?

Romans 7:15-18 (KJV):
15 “For that which I do I allow not; for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.”
16 “If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.”
17 “Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.”
18 “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.”

Struggling to Obey God’s Word? You’re Not Alone!

Have you ever asked yourself, Why is it so hard to obey God’s Word? You love Him, you treasure His Word, and you long for a deeper relationship with Him. But despite reading the Bible daily and knowing many verses, you still struggle to follow His commands.

Brother or sister, you’re not alone! I’ve been there too. Even though I’ve been a Christian my whole life and know God’s Word, I’ve faced many struggles with sin. But today, I want to give you a perspective of hope—because with Christ, there is always a way out. All things are possible through Him! Amen?

In this article, we’ll explore why obeying God can be so challenging. But don’t worry, we’ll also dive into some practical tips to help you grow spiritually and overcome the struggles you face. In Christ, all things are possible!

1 – The Flesh Resist The Spirit

Galatians 5:17 (KJV):
“For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

When Adam and Eve fell short of God’s glory, sin entered our flesh. This means that our natural inclinations are no longer toward God, but toward sin. Because of this, following Christ is a daily journey of sacrifice. Every day, we must fight against the desires of our flesh in order to do God’s will.

It’s like fighting against gravity. Gravity tries to pull us down, and we have to put in extra effort to rise above it. The same is true in our walk with Christ: sin is our “gravity.” Going downhill (giving into temptation) is easy, but climbing uphill (choosing God’s will) requires effort and perseverance.

Just like climbing a set of stairs, it’s easy to fall, but it takes strength and determination to rise. In Christianity, overcoming sin is our uphill battle.

2 – The World Is Full Of Distractions

Hebrews 12:1 (KJV):
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”

This world is full of distractions. Distractions are anything that takes your attention away from something important and pulls it toward something else. Everything here on earth—sports, music, TV, video games, our jobs, and even our dreams—can become distractions.

Now, let me be clear: it’s not a sin to watch a football match or enjoy a good video game. I love watching the Champions League and playing video games too. But we need to be aware that these things can be distractions. It’s important to recognize them so we can discipline ourselves to focus more on spiritual matters than on earthly ones.

For example, I love watching football, but I also have to remind myself that when I do, I’m feeding my flesh. If I want to feed my spirit more than my flesh, I need to prioritize activities like reading the Bible, praying, and fasting. If I spend hours and hours watching football each week, when tough times come and I need spiritual strength, my spirit will be weaker, and I’ll be more vulnerable to temptation and spiritual attacks.

So, it’s about balance. Enjoy your hobbies, but make sure you’re investing more time into growing spiritually, so you’re strong when adversity strikes.

3 – We Have An Enemy

1 Peter 5:8 (KJV):
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”

Brothers and Sisters, We Have an Enemy

We have an enemy, and it’s not just the Devil—it’s his demons too! They’re working tirelessly, day and night, to destroy both your life and mine. It’s important that we stay aware of this constant spiritual battle.

I know it’s tough, but as Christians, we cannot afford to let our guard down. Think about the people you know who were once strong in faith but have fallen away. How many of them are no longer walking with God?

The Devil’s goal is clear: to kill, steal, and destroy. As Christians, we can’t assume that everything will be fine just because we believe in Christ. We’re in a battlefield, and as long as we have breath in our bodies, the enemy will do everything he can to make us doubt God. So, we must stay vigilant!

Conclusion

Today, we’ve learned more about the importance of obedience to God, why it’s so challenging at times, and how we can better align our lives with His instructions. Remember, Christ never promised that following Him would be easy. Everyone has their own cross to bear, but we know that it’s all worth it in the end. Amen?
