“But I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you.”
— Jeremiah 7:23
Why should I obey God? Is it worth it? Have you ever found yourself asking these questions? Well, if you haven’t, as your brother in Christ, I’m here now asking you: why do you obey Jesus? If there are so many things to enjoy in this world, why not just live for yourself?
Today, let’s try to understand a bit more about obedience and God’s fatherhood over us, His children.
1 – Spiritual Joy

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
— Galatians 5:22-23
We are made in God’s image. That means every human being carries some similarities with their Creator—just like children often resemble their parents. It’s the same with us and God. Every person, whether they’re a Christian or not, has a natural draw toward things like goodness, love, faithfulness, and more. These are traits of our Father, and we inherit them from Him!
When we accept Christ as our Savior and begin to obey Him and His words, our spirit starts to connect more deeply with God. As that happens, we begin to look more like Christ in the way we live. That’s when the fruit of the Spirit starts to show in our actions.
One of the most powerful fruits is joy. When you’re walking in God’s will and truly committed to Him—following His word and instructions—you begin to experience a kind of joy that only the Holy Spirit can give. Nothing on this earth can compare to that feeling. And it comes through obedience!
2 – Spiritual Authority

“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
— Luke 10:19
When you’re walking in obedience, the Holy Spirit gives you authority over demons through Christ. You also start to feel a deep confidence, like nothing can overcome you—and that feeling comes from the Spirit. But you need to be careful, because the enemy can twist that. Demons can try to use your own obedience to make you feel proud of yourself, and when pride creeps in, they find a way to bring you down.
That’s why it’s so important to stay alert and watchful. If not, the devil’s traps can catch you off guard. Always remember this: power must walk hand in hand with humility. Never forget what the Bible says—“Pride goes before destruction” (Proverbs 16:18).
3 – Everything Will Cooperate For Your Good
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
— Romans 8:28
When we choose to obey God’s instructions, even difficult situations can help us grow—whether it’s in our finances, our spiritual life, or our character. But when we live in sin, we end up reaping what we’ve sown, and that leads to death.
Now, when you decide to follow God’s will, the responsibility is no longer on you—it’s in God’s hands. Just look at Job’s story. He lost everything, but because he knew he had been faithful, he held on to the confidence that things would turn around—and they did! The Bible says that God blessed him with twice as much as he had before.
4 – Your Ways Will Be Prosperous

“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God.”
— Deuteronomy 28:1-2
God doesn’t lie. In His Word, He promises prosperity to those who follow Him. The Bible even says that His thoughts toward us are to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). When we choose to obey Christ, our lives begin to flourish—and that prosperity covers every area: finances, spiritual life, family, marriage, and more.
In Genesis 39, we see how God made Joseph successful in Egypt. It says that while he was working in Potiphar’s house, everything he touched prospered. That’s what happens when God is with you!
5 – God’s Favor Upon Your Life

“Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.”
— Psalm 5:12
“Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.”
(Daniel 6:3)
When someone has God’s favor on their life, they’ll often find themselves standing out—even above others who might seem more qualified. Daniel was a great worker, but what truly set him apart was his faithfulness to God. That’s why sometimes, even if you’re not the most obvious choice for a job or opportunity, God can still put it in your boss’s heart to choose you. That’s what favor does.
When a person fully commits to Christ and decides to obey His Word no matter what, they receive God’s favor. And once you have it, nothing can stop you from walking in what God has planned for you. Even hard situations—like when Joseph was sold into slavery—will end up working for your good!
Conclusion
Today, we’ve learned about the benefits of living a life of obedience to Christ. Maybe you’re reading this and currently living in sin. If so, I invite you to repent and choose to be faithful to God. I promise you, your life will never be the same.
If you want to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior, simply repeat these words: “Dear Heavenly Father, I accept Christ as my only Savior, and today I choose to obey His words completely. Amen.”
