3 Reasons To Be Aware On Compliments!

“21 The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold,
but people are tested by their praise.”
Proverbs 27:21

As you continue your walk with Christ, you begin to develop spiritual maturity. Today’s topic is about praise and compliments—something the Bible says we are tested by. How you handle them can either strengthen you or create openings for the enemy to attack.

My goal with this article is to share some insights based on my own experiences. When someone is on fire for God, the Devil knows he cannot defeat them head-on, so he changes his strategy. Instead of direct attacks, he uses people—and even your own thoughts—to make you feel good about yourself in a way that leads to pride.

Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the Devil’s strategies against Christians and how he uses them to create openings for a future attack.

1- The Devil Will Attack  You With Intrusive Thoughts

“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Ephesians 6:15-17

The Devil’s first attack is on your mind. Pride starts as a small seed, but little by little, it grows until it creates an opening that demons can use to make you fall.

I remember times when I suddenly imagined my own funeral, with people praising me and talking about how good of a person I was. When those thoughts came, a sense of pride started to grow in me. Once that opening was there, the Devil was ready to strike, and I fell into temptation.

Brothers and sisters, our enemy is clever. The only way to defeat him is to stay alert and keep a humble heart.

2 – The Devil Will Try To Make You Believe In Your Strength

9 After putting him to sleep on her lap, she called for someone to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him. And his strength left him.
20 Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!”
He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him.
21 Then the Philistines seized him, gouged out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. Binding him with bronze shackles, they set him to grinding grain in the prison.

The Devil used Samson’s strength against him through pride. He made Samson believe that nothing could weaken him, and eventually, he revealed his secret to Delilah. She cut off his hair, and though Samson thought he could escape as before, things didn’t go as he expected.

Nothing has changed today. When the Devil and his demons see a Christian fasting and praying without any weaknesses, their only option is to create one. He will use your own strength against you. If you’re constantly seeking God, praying, and fasting, he will try to plant seeds of pride in your mind with thoughts like, “I’m such a good Christian” or “I’ll never fall into that sin again. I’m stronger now—nothing can make me stumble.”

Don’t fall into this trap! That’s why it’s so important to always stay alert and humble.

3 – The Compliments Are Just A Bait

“18 Pride goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit before a fall.”
Proverbs 16:18

Before attacking, the Devil will first lift you up with a moment of praise. It starts in your mind, and then he uses people to reinforce it—bringing others to shower you with compliments. Once your mind is already filled with pride, that’s when he strikes because he knows that once pride takes root, a fall is inevitable.

Have you ever thought that this might have even happened in heaven? Imagine an angel having the idea of becoming like God. At first, he keeps it to himself, but then other angels come to him, saying, “You’re as great as God! Look at how powerful and beautiful you are!” We can’t say for sure that this is exactly what happened, but if it did, those words of praise may have been the trigger that led to the Devil’s downfall.

This shows the power of a compliment. Be mindful of what you think, and be careful about what you accept from others. The Bible teaches us to always give glory to God. So, my advice is this—whenever someone praises you, immediately give the glory to God. Doing so will protect you from creating an opening for a fall.

Conclusion

Last but not least, the Devil is always looking for the smallest opening. Those who are distracted will not stand firm for long. Brothers and sisters, the Bible says that the Kingdom of Heaven is taken by force, which means this is no time to be careless. Put on the full armor of God and stay alert to the Devil’s schemes against you!
